Brest cancer awareness is a cause that is near and dear to our hearts. With women’s imaging being one of our specialties, our radiologists play a role in screening women and fighting breast cancer. Our Villages location is directly partnered with Michelle-O-Gram, a non-profit organization that assists women with affordable mammograms and breast ultrasounds. We wanted to share this amazing program in hopes that you’ll learn more about the importance of breast screenings.
The Story Behind Michelle-O-Gram
Michelle-O-Gram was founded in remembrance of Michelle Blauser Standridge, a local wife and mother who passed away from breast cancer at the age of 36. To commemorate Michelle’s battle with cancer, Michelle-O-Gram has partnered with local radiology centers like ours to provide women with mammograms.
Through donations and support throughout the community, this charity assists women who are uninsured or cannot afford mammography. In 6 years, Michelle-O-Gram has helped provide breast exams to 925 women and 2 men. Our three Advanced Imaging locations participate in helping offer women with mammograms through this charity.
Why Mammograms Are Important
Through the years Michelle battled breast cancer, she always stressed the importance of mammograms. Michelle-O-Gram follows in her footsteps by encouraging women to undergo their annual mammogram. With one in eight women being diagnosed with breast cancer once in their life, early detection is the key to successfully treat the disease.
Through mammograms, physical breast exams, and awareness, breast cancer can be better treated. Mammograms are specifically important because they show changes in the breast to two years before symptoms can be felt. The earlier mammograms can catch cancer, the less extensive treatment is necessary which can help conserve the breast.
At Advanced Imaging Centers, we stress the importance of breast cancer awareness and early screenings. We think it’s so important that we have chosen to support the Michelle-O-Gram charity to spread awareness and make mammograms more accessible. If you’re in need of a breast exam, visit one of our three centers and be proactive about your breast health.
