One of the nation’s most beloved holidays is coming up this weekend, the 4th of July is an American tradition that goes way back. Literally, it goes back to the founding of our country. July 4th weekend means sun, pool, beach, fireworks and backyard barbecues. If you are trying to maintain your summer body through the holiday weekend, then fear not. Between burgers, chips, coleslaw, and hot dogs, we understand that 4th of July doesn’t feature diet foods. That’s why we have compiled some tasty treats to eat that won’t ruin your summer body progress.

1.)   Strawberries and blueberries

Yes, we know this isn’t technically one food but together these two fruits are perfect for a patriotic fourth, they are even red and blue! Strawberries and blueberries are antioxidant rich and so good for blood pressure, brain power and a healthy gut. Pair these two together for a sweet dessert, if you’re feeling adventurous top it with a little bit of whipped cream for a healthy American dessert.

2.)   Grilled Corn

Corn grows in much of the Midwest, and for that reason it is an American staple. Everyone loves a nice ear of corn for a barbecue, and its actually pretty good for your body. Corn is cancer fighting and supports a healthy heart, all while being delicious. Grill up some corn on the cob and add a little bit of parmesan cheese for a salty snack while enjoying the anniversary of our nation.

3.)   Watermelon

This summer staple is one of your favorite and juiciest foods in the world. Crack a watermelon open and keep hydrated all day long. Watermelon also satisfies sweet cravings while keeping your body hydrated. Try a slice of watermelon or pair it with mint, basil and feta for a yummy cold salad.

4.)   Potatoes

We know potatoes aren’t the healthiest vegetable to indulge in but it’s a holiday! Potatoes also have an abundance of vitamin C, B6 and potassium. Potatoes are a little starchy compared to other vegetables but paired with the options listed above you should have a healthy holiday barbeque. Try roasting sliced potatoes or making a classic American potato salad.

Eat these foods for a fun filled holiday weekend! Don’t be afraid to indulge in a burger (or two). It’s America’s birthday, so that basically means it’s also our birthday. Have a happy 4th of July weekend!
