By this point, we all know for a fact that breast cancer is a fairly common disease. The statistic is that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer throughout their lifetime, and to us that feels like a pretty high number. Although that statistic can be scary, we also know now that early detection drastically increases your chances of overcoming the disease. Because of this, all women over the age of 40 (or younger women who are at high risk for developing breast cancer) are urged to get a yearly mammogram. There’s nothing fun about mammograms, but they’re your best chance at detecting breast cancer while it’s in the early stages—something that makes a huge difference in your treatment options and chances for survival.
That being said, it’s easy to tell someone “you should get this medical procedure every single year for the rest of your forseeable life”. It’s not so easy to actually shell out the money for said procedure. Getting a mammogram isn’t like getting a flu shot, a free or worst-case-scenario $10 yearly expense. The average cash-pay price for a digital mammogram in our area is $156. Keep in mind that that price included paying out of pocket and using an online site that provides reduced costs for procedures, so if you walk into your local hospital the price will probably be much higher than that.
For some people $156 isn’t a difficult amount to pay. But if you live until you’re 80 and start getting yearly mammograms at 40, that adds up to a pretty substantial sum. It’s $6,240, to be exact. And, if you’re like many of us, you may not have an extra $156 in your budget for a mammogram this month.
We understand that, and we don’t think that money should stand in the way of being able to get a mammogram. That’s why from September 29th through November 13th, during the time when women are most likely to schedule mammograms because of Breast Cancer Awareness, we’re lowering our prices for digital mammograms to just $99. We want to do everything we can to make it easier and more affordable for our patients to get the mammograms they need!
