The Holiday season offers a great excuse for some light-hearted loving! With mistletoe hanging in doorways and long nights by the fire, Christmas gives people that warm fuzzy feeling. It’s a season for love…between family, between friends, and between lovers. Believe it or not, there are several perks to kissing that don’t involve the act itself. Kissing has been proven to have a number of health benefits, making it not only a fun but also very productive activity to engage in this Holiday season! We did a little bit of research, and here are a few of the positive benefits to kissing that we stumbled upon.
1) Kissing boosts self-esteem. I guess that should go without saying, but studies have shown that kissing drastically increases people’s sense of self-esteem because it makes them feel loved and connected, which can alleviate stress and anxiety about daily life. It’s also been proven that men who get kisses from their wives in the morning before work end up making more money, so ladies, if you’ve got your eye on that new purse at the mall, pucker up!
2) Kissing can help reduce your blood pressure. Kissing is a great way to get your heart pumping, which experts claim helps dilate your blood vessels and can decrease overall blood pressure.
3) Kissing can fight cavities. This one’s actually kind of gross, but the extra saliva you excrete when mackin’ on your significant other actually helps wash away plaque and reduces your chances of getting cavities. Take one for your teeth!
4) Kissing burns calories (kind of). People like to use this one as their biggest excuse for some extra make-out sessions, and while the reality is that you don’t burn a huge amount of calories from kissing, you still burn more than you would if you weren’t kissing. So there’s that.
5) Kissing naturally relaxes you. Studies show that kissing helps to increase your body’s natural calming chemical, typically referred to as oxytocin, which helps you relax.
6) Last but not least, kissing helps relieve cramps and headaches. Ladies, most of the time when you’re crampy or your head hurts, kissing is the last thing you’ve got on your mind. But studies have shown that the same blood-vessel dilation that occurs from kissing and can help lower your blood pressure also aids in relieving pain, more specifically pain related to headaches or menstrual cramps.
