Are you looking for a way to get involved with Breast Cancer Awareness Month Activities, but don’t know where to start? If you are in the Orlando, Florida Area, come out and join Advanced Imaging Centers at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. On October 20th, 2012 at 9 AM, there will be a 5K walk of the Orlando Metro area in LakeEolaPark.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer unites the community to honor survivors, raise awareness of early detection, and to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Since the beginning of Making Strides over 20 years ago, breast cancer deaths have dropped 32 percent. The success that Making Strides had found is unbelievable, but they are trying to keep pushing forward and they could always use more walkers! Having more people involved means the bigger breakthroughs in research, more services for breast cancer patients who need treatment, and more fundraising which leads to more birthdays.
AIC is also a part of the Pinky Swear 2012 Campaign, which promotes the importance of early detection. The Pinky Swear Campaign tries to spread awareness, explaining the importance of early detection, and explaining how early detection can and will save lives. To learn more about the campaign and to take the Pinky Swear Pledge, check out the facebook page and the blog page.
Other ways to get involved in the Orlando area include the SGK 3 day at the University of Central Florida. The famous Susan G Koman 3 Day Race For a Cure invited participants to walk 60 miles in 3 days. Starting October 21st, 2012; the walk in the Orlando will have hundreds of participants. You still can to sign-up, get a team together, and fundraise. There are a number of other smaller events in the Orlando area as well.
Another great opportunity for getting involved is the FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer) conference, which focuses on awareness for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. FORCE addresses warning signs and welcomes cancer survivors, high-risk individuals, those with family history of cancer, and health-care providers who treat high-risk patients to attend. Their conference is October 18th-20th, 2012. To learn more about FORCE or their conference visit their website.
If you are trying to get involved, but do not have time in your schedule to squeeze in a 5K, 3 day walk or a local conference; you can always donate or share your support online! The American Cancer Society, SGK, or Making Strides Against Breast Cancer all accept donations and The Pinky Swear 2012 online campaign has a number of contests and ways to share your voice.
Advanced Imaging Centers would love to see you come out and show your support in fighting breast cancer. To see more on the events AIC is doing check out their Facebook page.
