What: An x-ray examination of the kidneys, ureters and urinary bladder that uses iodinated contrast material injected into your veins, the Intravenous Pyelogram procedure is done on an outpatient basis. It utilizes an injected contrast material and an x-ray completed while you lay on an exam table.

Time: Less than 1 hour

Prep: You must come in to pick up a Prep Kit at least 48 hours before your exam. The prep will be taken the day before the exam. The day of the exam, you will be asked not to eat or drink anything. Inform your physician of any medications you are taking and if you have any allergies, especially to barium or iodinated contrast materials. Also inform your physician about recent illnesses or other medical conditions prior to the procedure.
