What: A breast ultrasound is a safe and painless procedure that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions by producing pictures of the inside of the breast using sound waves. The primary use of a breast ultrasound is to diagnose abnormalities in the breast detected either during a physical exam or mammography.

Time: Approximately 15-30 minutes

Prep: There isn't any special preparation required for a breast ultrasound. Just make sure not to apply any powders (i.e. deodorant), lotions, or other cosmetics to your breasts or armpits before the ultrasound.
